The Long Term Planning process is defining how to build upon Detroit’s existing assets to improve quality of life. Using building blocks, known to urban planners as typologies, the team has begun to identify possible ways to address the high rate of vacant land in Detroit. Our land as it is being used today is becoming a liability in the city of Detroit. Each area of the city will require different buildings blocks because not all building blocks can be applied to all parts of Detroit. We must transform it into an asset; and to do that the Technical Team has identified five different buckets of building blocks we can use on a citywide scale; they are:
