How Will The City Invest?

A few challenges:

• Although recently reduced by a significant amount through the Bing administration’s efforts, the city budget deficit remains $85 million.
• It is estimated that it would take nearly $250 million to demolish all of the city’s most dangerous abandoned properties.

Our opportunity:

• Through school and federal funding such as neighborhood stabilization programs alone, Detroit has realized $1.247 billion in public investment, and $70 million invested from philanthropic efforts over the last 5 years.
• Businesses and corporations have demonstrated a renewed commitment to the city.

Something to think about:

• How can all of this investment work harder to achieve common goals and create real improvements?

What do we want to become:

• A government with shared agreement around physical, economic and social goals that will assure future private and philanthropic investment with confidence.
