How Will We Decide?

Featured Image

A few challenges:

  • The last citywide planning effort, 1998’s Community Reinvestment Strategy, was viewed by some as a great process that, in the end, did not lead to adoption or implementation.
  • Many residents remain skeptical that a planning process can lead to effective change, and of the city government’s ability to deliver.

Our opportunity:

  • With residents and others who have a stake in the city involved at the groundlevel, a commitment for change from the city government, and energy/interest from the public, private and philanthropic communities, it is clear that the time is now.

Something to think about:

  • Who is considered a Detroit “stakeholder?” Detroit’s success is critical to the success of the region and the state. Who will get to participate in making decisions, and at what points in time?

What do we want to become:

  • A city where every Detroiter, and person who cares about Detroit, has a voice and role in this process, and trusts city government to implement meaningful change.
