What Services Will People Need?

Featured Image

A few challenges:

  • Detroit Public Schools currently enrolls 84,000 students, but that figure is expected to decline by 9,500 students between 2010 and 2015.
  • The city has over 2,700 miles of roadway, and nearly double that in sidewalks, to maintain, much of which is underutilized.
  • The average Detroit grocery store is only half the size of the national average full-service grocery store.

Our opportunity:

  • Neighborhoods that have strong civic involvement, stable populations and housing stock, and coordinated public and private investment can strengthen schools and communities.
  • There are over 600 sites in the city currently growing, producing and providing access to healthy food for residents.

Something to think about:

  • How can city government – in the face of financial challenges – better plan and provide for public services and amenities for residents, commuters and visitors now and into the future?

What do we want to become:

  • A city with access to safe, convenient and modern services and facilities.
