Where Will People Live?

Featured Image

A few challenges:

  • Nearly 80% of all housing in Detroit is singlefamily homes, with the end result being fewer options for people who prefer apartments, condominiums, townhouses and other housing options.
  • There are over 55,000 properties in foreclosure, a crisis that began in 2004 and continues today.

Our opportunity:

  • 86% of those single-family homes are in good condition, and housing in general is inexpensive, providing a good foundation for retaining and attracting residents.

Something to think about:

  • Is your neighborhood the same as it was 10 or 20 years ago? What changed and what remains positive? Can Detroit create safe, stable neighborhoods through consolidation of development and population density?

What do we want to become:

  • A city with diverse housing choices for different types of neighborhoods – both existing and new.
